Back home… although I wish I wasn’t

Well, it’s been a long trip, but I’m back home… even though I wish I was still traveling =). I never realized how much fun it’d be. Next time I go to Japan though, I’m going to learn more of the language in advance. By the end of the trip I was getting around ok, but it was pretty rough at first.  You’d be surprised at how bad at English the Japanese are. Not even pronunciation bad, but literally not understanding bad. I plan on following up with sort of a recap post about the trip and some tips for those planning to travel there in the future.

Still, even though my internet access was spotty there was no shortage of drama.

For one, we launched the Aniblog Tourney, which I implore you to check out. It wasn’t the smoothest of launches, definitely some things we could’ve improved, but overall the reception’s been pretty positive. With that said, somehow I found myself in the crossfire of controversy over a comment I thought was pretty innocuous at the time (ironically, a different comment I made which I thought could’ve been more adroitly worded, ended up causing no problems – go figure). But happily, that’s all over.

In other news, I’ve fallen terribly behind on my watch list (not to mention blogging Angel Beats), so I ended up dropping most of the spring shows, so I could try to catch up quickly. What’s left? Well, obviously I’ll continue watching FMA and DRRR from seasons prior. But spring may come down to just AB and K-ON. I didn’t realize how hard it’d be to stay current while traveling. It’ll probably take me an extra couple days to get back on the blogging campaign though, as there’s a fair amount of post-travel tidying up I need to do.

But stay tuned! Updates are forthcoming.

  1. Oi, welcome home!

I’m actually kind of surprised that I haven’t dropped anything as of yet. I guess I have a bit too much time on my hands since I’m following 9 series right now…

    1. I’m a little sad to drop some of these shows, because spring seems like it’s a pretty good season. But what can ya do. Too much anime, too little time. :p

  2. Welcome back!

I also fell behind on shows when I went to Japan this past summer, but I only ended up dropping one.

How much Japanese did you know before going? I was lucky that I had 4+ years of Japanese college study before I went this past summer. I had to pretty much be an amateur translator for myself and my companion (who only knew a few words). It was excellent practice – but unfortunately, now that I’ve graduated college and have no Japanese people to talk to, it’s slowly slipping away (watching anime helps a lot, though).

    1. Thanks! I knew very, very little. Just the bare basics that I’ve picked up from watching anime. It was also a little tougher, because everyone there assumed I was Japanese which made the beginning of conversations a little awkward.
