Angel Beats gets an 8

Jun Maeda’s latest tearjerker actually lets up on the melodrama replaces it with some good action and his typical goofy humor. The supernatural plot falls apart towards the end, but it’s my favorite of the Maeda stories (honestly, it’s the only one I can really tolerate).

So for the elder readers, does anyone remember an old show called Party of Five? I never watched it, but all I remember about it was it featured ridiculously hot girls and a lot of emo situations. Uh… not that I’m saying Angel Beats is anything like that.

Eh… what can I say. I loved the middle of the episode when we got to see Yuri reject her paradise. I didn’t particularly like the beginning or end. So what does that make this? A stale ice cream sandwich?

I wonder if Jun Maeda was influenced by Persona 4, because first we see a Naoto clone (named Naoi) and now we get evil shadows that consume people.

This episode featured the one time where I thought the humor was really out of place (everyone reacting to Shiina talking), but besides that it may have been the best episode yet. I contemplated bundling the episode 7 and 8 posts together, since nothing major really happens in episode 7, except for the reveal to episode 8, but I haven’t bundled any posts yet, so what the hell. Might as well keep things going as is. Thankfully, I should be finally caught up and current by the [...]

Wow, for a show where death is played up for laughs so much, I’ve been really impressed at how its still been able to use it in powerful, dramatic ways.

Actually it’s Kanade. And she has the voice of a tenshi (or better known as Kana Hanazawa). And she looks so megas cute and helpless- oh god, I’m such a slut. A couple episodes ago I was fawning over Yuri, then just last episode it was Yui, and now Kanade.

Well, not really, but let’s say a character she was voicing was. Would you consider that a world with no God? I would think not.
