Two random blokes chat about the Winter 2012 season

Every “season preview” is an experiment for me. Experiment in styles and formats. For a long time, I tried to highlight key bits of information. For this season I’ve decided to take a complete 180, go barebones and focus on entertainment – or what I hope is entertainment. This is basically just an edited conversation with me and Sabishii. We’re light on info and any sort of details, but with all the other previews, hopefully you should have a pretty good idea of what the shows are about. Let’s see how this format flies.

In case you’re not yet familiar with the shows, you should check out other previews you may find more helpful for informational content: THAT, The Cart Driver, Caraniel, Random C, and Sekijitsu (no Sea Slugs preview this season?)

The Winter 2011 Anime Season Preview is Back

After much consternation and soul searching about whether another preview post is even worth the effort, the season preview is back. I realized the season preview is not about the info itself, it’s not even about my opinions. For me, it’s about getting the chance to think about how to design the post – deciding what info to include, what to opine on, and then trying to figure out how to make it look better, easier to read and be more useful to people than the last version. Hopefully this latest version is a step forward from all the previous versions.

The last fall 2010 anime season preview you’ll ever read

It seems season preview posts are happening earlier and earlier these days. By the time the actual season rolls around, it’s like you gotta root through ancient history to remember what was what. Meanwhile, I’ve been doing the previews later and later. It’s at the cost of comments, but it seems to make sense to me. Sort of like how I don’t care about football season until baseball season is over, it’s hard for me to get psyched about the next season when we’re running right into the climax of the current season. So I’m bringing up the rear.

The winter 2009/2010 anime season preview!

Ok, I have to get this post out the door, I’ve already spent way too much time already tweaking code. I’m not happy with it, because I had grander design plans in mind. But I eventually cut out 90% of the work I originally did, because I couldn’t get things to look and function perfectly. Sadly my vision for this post was more ambitious than my very limited coding skills. But at least it’s table free, which was the one goal I was able to accomplish (for better or worse). Oh well, I’ll revisit it for the next season. (On a completely separate note, much thanks to Ryan A for continuing to help me figure out the melative plugin. It hasn’t been implemented yet, but I’m hoping to think of interesting ways to eventually incorporate information from melative here.). So without further ado (and any more bitching), I bring you… the winter 2009/2010 anime season preview – complete with cheesy header banner!

2009 Fall Anime Preview – Bringing you the meh

I really hate HTML tables. 75% of the time spent on this post was messing with table code. I’m thinking I should format this differently next time around.

This fall seems to be the season for uninspired sequels. A good third of the season consists of sequels – of mostly crappy shows. It boggles my mind how many crappy sequels there are this season. In case anime studios are having difficulty figuring out what to make sequels for, here’s a list of sequels I’d rather see (that haven’t been announced yet):

2009 Summer Anime Preview – way better than the crappy Spring preview!

My only goal for my summer preview was to do a better job than I did with the winter preview, in which I skipped mention of certain shows that I ended up watching anyway, clearly showing my lack of prophetic skills. Thankfully I set the bar pretty low then. If you have any thoughts for further improvement in the inevitable fall preview, feel free to drop a comment.
