Haruhi Suzumiya: Anime’s Duke Nukem Forever?

When the Haruhi spinoff is still nonexistent and in doubt for 2009, what does that mean for the real Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya season 2? I mean, some sources say season 2 is due, whatever that’s supposed to mean. But heck, I can make stuff up too. I have some legit sources that tell me it’s coming out right after they finish milking the Clannad cash cow.

Season 2’s quickly becoming anime’s version of Duke Nukem Forever. But if Chinese Democracy actually materialized out of vaporware last year, I imagine Haruhi season 2 must be inevitable. It’s even weirder since it’s not like they have to write anything new. All the light novels are written so far (except for that elusive tenth novel). I can’t imagine what they’re waiting for.

On a separate but related note, I wish someone would license the light novels, translate and release them in the US. In the meanwhile, thank goodness for Baka Tsuki’s translation. If you haven’t read them, they’re really worth it. Just as addicting as the show. Of course, you’ll end up spoiling yourself about the second season that may never be. 🙂
