I’ve been really digging Hatsukoi Limited. It’s been the surprise of the pleasant season as far as I’m concerned. But for all the talk about its love dodecahedrons, it’s actually fairly straightforward. It’s usually straight lines or triangles (unless it’s ridiculously hot Misaki – in which case all lines point to her). So I’m going to go out on a limb and give the most tangled love polygon of the season award to K-ON! Because as you can see, the shape doesn’t even form a polygon. I didn’t even bother drawing lines for Mugi, because she loves everyone and would make my already messy drawing totally incomprehensible. Yui also loves everyone, but she gets some reciprocal love back (green is reciprocal loves, red is one way loves). I wonder if I’m missing any lines. But there you go. K-ON is the love comedy of the season. Will they find true love at the end of the season? Or will hearts be broken? Stay tuned.
I’m just waiting for the Azu-nyan and Ui flag to trigger. I mean we all know it’s coming. But then again Ui seems pretty taken by Yui’s cute and fuzzy slothiness.
The real value of anime seasons that cover multiple school years is you get to throw in multiple beach episodes. This is particularly useful because we missed out on Azu-nyan misizu action before. Don’t ever question KyoAni’s mastery of moving merchandise. Anyway, the beach is a front for a “training session?” Which gets Azu-nyan, still showing her gullibility, wondering if it’s going to be a few days of hardcore practicing.
However, Azu-nyan’s practice dreams are shattered for some fun in the sun. But we at least get to see her cute pouty face in return. However, her dreams of Mugi’s high-roller life were pretty accurate. I don’t know if this was meant as an inside joke, but it’s obvious Mugi is not a fan of nice boats either.
Really this episode was mostly a retread of jokes from the last beach episode, but with a slightly new perspective. Azu-nyan becomes much more familiar with Mio’s scaredy cat nature. Then Ritsu and Yui share the yuri-est hug of the season. Somewhere out there Mugi’s dying of nosebleed. Azu-nyan becomes a nice shade of tan and continues to cut into Mio’s former role as moe-queen, they practice a little, play with fireworks, run into Sawa-chan and then get into some hot tub fun. Nothing we haven’t seen before, but I still entertaining in its own way.
One of the repeat scenes I’ve loved is seeing Yui sitting down and practicing on her own. While she’s an idiot savant, who might be able to get by without practicing, there’s something about the humility in these scenes that I really appreciate. Plus, I can’t help but marvel at the terribly uncomfortable position Yui is sitting in.
Everything comes full circle at the end, and I really liked how they ended this episode. Heartwarming with feeling, but sans the melodrama from the last episode. This is how you go about bringing Azu-nyan into the fold and making her feel like one with the group. No tears, just smiles.
