Kurokami: Black God, episode 13 – Screw you guys, I’m going home

I’d read good things about KK #13. Read that it was the best episode since the first episode. Even read some comments that it felt like a whole new show. So I watched it, somewhat skeptical, but with a renewed hope in mind. Conclusion? No, it still sucks. Nothing’s changed. The show still looks cheaply animated, we didn’t lose the dumb synchro scenes, the Konbini-voyeur quickly went from ambiguously evil to clearly evil, and the story still sucks.

Things I liked:

  • Kuro finally won some fights! Looks like her time off was well spent training.
  • The Konbini-voyeur’s plan of using the doppeliner system to change the world, through luck and economics is interesting to me, because I think economics is pretty interesting, but probably pretty boring to everyone else.

Things I didn’t like:

  • I was starting to like Konbini-voyeur, because it felt like he had some shades of gray. But this episode clearly showed his evil intentions. We just replaced Reishin with the Konbini-voyeur. They have the same goals and want to remake the world. One for mototsumitamas and one for humans. Big whoop.
  • WTF is with this neverending Exceed? And the mass produced Thousands? It’s like trans-spam mode all over again.
  • It still felt like the same show. Perhaps my expectations were too high. But it still had the same sloppy writing, the same one-dimensional characters, and the same cheap-looking animation.

Random other thoughts:

Anyway, I’m dropping this show. I’d only kept writing about it as long as I did, because I was hoping it would end after episode 12 or 13 (and because it allowed me to experiment with different post formats). Once it didn’t and it failed to wow me, the writing was on the wall. There’s an off chance I may still keep watching this since I’m already halfway through, but even that seems like a waste of time. Boo. Final grade: F.

  1. Whoa dude! You stopped watching this at the same time i did! I just jacked it in on episode 13 too. You’re quickly becoming my fav anime blogger on the net and will start to trust your opinon on whats good out there. Lets face it there’s far too many animes out there to watch it all so you do have to be selective.

    1. Thanks for the compliments! Glad you enjoy the posts, unfortunately KK was indeed a crappy show. If you have any recommendations yourself feel free to shoot them over too. :p

  2. We seem to be on the same wavelengh. There’s nothing i can recommend you’d probably haven’t already seen. I’m reletively a novis to the anime scene. I’ve seen the odd one that highly praised like Cowboy Bebop, GITS an NGE. But i haven’t got seriously into anime until this summer, the list i have seen so far in the last 3 months is:

    What i have seen/watching so far:
    The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (great 1st season, not enjoying the second, almost dropping it)
    Full Metal Alchemist (Recommended)
    Neon Genesis Evangelion (Recommended, but i am prefering the new movies)
    Tenchi Muyo (First one i have ever seen, but now realise there’s better anime)
    All Studio Ghibli Movies (AAA+++ Recommended)
    Ghost in the Shell (All TV series and all movies, AAA+++ Recommended)
    Cowboy Bebop (AAA+++ Recommended)
    Chobits (much better than i thought, amazing music as well, Recommended)
    Gurren Lagann (haha! yes silly but leave you feeling pumped!! Recommended)
    DearS (Same as Chobits, but not quite as good)
    Excel Saga (WTF!?!?!! HAHAHA)
    Death Note (AAA+++ Recommended)
    Ah! My Goddess (TV series, it’s ok, but the premese is forever open ended)
    Spice and Wolf (AAA+++ Recommended)
    moon phase (not my cup of tea, not Recommended)

    What i have on my ‘watch’ list:
    Full Metal Alchemist: Botherhood (which is essentaily a remake of the original series)
    Ergo Proxy
    Love Hina
    Please Teacher

    1. Actually, I would consider myself fairly new too (or at least definitely not an oldhead 😀 ). There’s a bunch on the list you mentioned that I haven’t seen, NGE, Excel Saga, DearS, the GITS TV series.

      I’ll say Brotherhood is sort of meh for the first 12 or so episodes, but once they get to the new stuff, it’s great. Love Hina, I wasn’t a big fan of, although I know a lot of people like it.

      I’d recommend Higurashi no naku Koro ni if you haven’t seen it yet. It’s amazing, and I’m not even a horror fan.

      Are you on MAL?

  3. Don’t bother so much with Excel Saga and DearS (unless you really liked chobits) unless you got nothing else to watch. But Dude, GITS TV series is essential viewing, you are really missing out! And NGE, well the TV series is good but the movies that are coming out are better (animation and pacing) so i would wait for them all to come out and watch those instead, it’s the same story retold. Not on MAL, will check it out

    1. I’ll have to check out GITS, is it related to the movie? NGE, I’ve been meaning to watch for like the past decade, but for whatever reason haven’t, but it’s definitely on my list. Seems like one of the classics everyone has to see.

      Definitely check out MAL, it’s a great site especially for finding new shows you might like.

  4. In regaurds to GITS, It has all the same characters and the style as the film. But apart from that not really related (ie, like a reboot of the premises) The TV series is utterly suberb, espically the first series (known as 1st Gig) And i dare you not to find the tachikomas awsome and cute at the same time.

    With NGE, drop the TV series and start watching the new films, start with NGE:You are not alone 1.11. I think the second one has just come out as well) All the info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rebuild_of_Evangelion It’s a direct remake with better animation and the story is paired down and flows better
