Nisemonogatari 02: It’s mostly porn

I got around to thinking about Araragi’s life and what a sweet deal he has.

That's what she said

Araragi has no male friends now that Oshino is out of the picture (questionable if you’d even consider Oshino a “friend” so much as another male figure on the show). His life consists of meeting his 5 attractive female friends one after another – actual “girlfriend” Senjougahara, has the hots for him Nadeko (whose voice I continue to adore), sporty exhibitionist Kanbaru, Jekyll/Hyde Catgirl Hanekawa and sharp tongued, maybe prime in another 10 years Hachikuji. When Araragi isn’t talking to them on the phone, he’s being invited to their houses – either while their parents are out, or while they’re naked.

You have to take responsibility!

When he visits their houses, it’s one witty conversation after another. When the conversation dries up, there’s physical misunderstandings and altercations that guys with harems would nosebleed for. Speaking of which, did anyone else notice how much forward Nadeko was in this episode than we’ve seen her before? She may as well have left a trail of clothes from her front door to her bed.

Supernatural crimefighters anonymous

Meanwhile, over in the “main” story, although this arc seems to be focused on Araragi’s relationship with Karen, we haven’t really seen any substantial dialogue between the two besides the scene on the bridge, and that was light on details. Of course, don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining. Nisemonogatari continues to be fascinating and in Bakemonogatari fashion, I suspect there’ll be a supernatural twist in the next episode which gives the –gatari series that little panache of depth and intrigue that I’ve come to love. I’m just fascinated by the very blatant and at the same time very subtle harem structure of the show.

I do appreciate the extra focus on the more “sexual” aspect of the whole plot, but does that really tie in with the style Bakemono is? Not that I don’t find it interesting, but it’s certainly something new and more or less unexpected.

Can’t wait to see how this unfolds~!

I can’t say the “sexual” aspect is totally new though, it’s always been a part of -gatari, it was just a little more spaced out since Araragi was still building his harem for most of last season.

Hmm…so it seems to me that you are more sensitive to the “sexual” stuff :D

Aside from that, I definitely agree with the “building harem” part.

Great post RP ^^

Porn has a kind of explicit (hurr) honesty of purpose which Nisemonogatari lacks.

Oh, I don’t know. It’s all for entertainment purposes I suppose

“sharp tongued, maybe prime in another 10 years Hachikuji.”

Don’t review stuff you haven’t watched. In 10 years Hachikuji will look exactly as she does now.
