I think I'm officially hooked. I have to agree with you about Isuzu, I think she is on Hiro's side and is his ally. In these stories parents in general are absent or their involvement is very little. Because their guidance not to mention restrictions are gone it’s unsure to know what it is really going on. Not to mention we don’t get any additional info on the said characters aside from what we see on screen or hear from their friends and by friends I mean accomplices. That’s not always the case, of course, but it usually is. This is a small town after all.

We don’t know what kind of life Isuzu and her brother lead or used to lead. Also the lack of parental love could lead Issei to become overprotective and see anyone as an enemy that gets close to her little sister. Yet he doesn’t seem that much concerned, which is strange to say the least. Similarly, Isuzu’s strange love could be her needing somebody else to care for her that is not her older brother. As we’ve seen she displays too much interest for someone she just met a few days ago. It’s irrational. Almost like she knows Hiroshi or least he reminds her of someone else. A safe bet is that Hiroshi is a symbol of something she doesn’t want to lose. Maybe one of the sacrifices was her own family or a close friend?

This is a work of Ryukishi07 after all. There are plenty of clues and hints to go around. People just need to look for them.

Hmm, I don’t remember anything about their parents. In fact, I don’t remember any references to parents, besides Hiro’s dad. You think something happened to Issei and Isuzu’s parents?

Yeah, I definitely think Nemuru has some ins with the wolf army, although I don’t think of her as a co-conspirator. But it seems like the town overlooks the disappearances, either because of fear or maybe because they condone it. Perhaps Isuzu is a hero fighting that tide then.

Puppy love is probably too extreme on the other end, but if it weren’t for the whole class falling for Hiroshi, I wouldn’t call her advances unnatural. Maybe a bit creepy. But not terribly over the top. I think the yandere scenes we saw and the weirdness of the town throws off our lens

I wouldn’t say that Nemuru is evil or the one pulling the strings. Everything seems to be pointing at her to be the bad guy but it might not be the case. She could be like the Mion of the show. The police thought she or rather the Sonozaki family were behind the killings but that wasn’t exactly the case. If she wanted to get rid of Hiroshi she would’ve done it a long time ago. I’m unsure why they’d want to kill him in the first place though. Also, I’d say that it’s possible that Isuzu’s strange behavior is due to her brother. Btw, have they ever mentioned their parents? It makes a difference.

Umineko and Higurashi and completely different shows. I usually stop reading when someone makes the claim that they are the same as his or her main argument. It looks like someone got stuck on the first arc.

Issei definitely seems off to me, but I think with the bit of yandere!Isuzu in the beginning and the strange looks in general when the wolves and whatnot are brought up that the series is laying it on a bit thick with pegging Isuzu as a potentially villainous character, which gives me pause. After all, after Higurashi’s first arc, both Shion and Rena looked positively batcrap bonkers, and look how they turned out by the end. So like you, I’m holding back on declaring Isuzu a villain.

I’m going back and forth on Nemuru too. She seems to have a position of power, but we don’t know of any sort of agenda, or if she’s affiliated with the wolf army (though the show has strongly suggested she is), or anything else, so I’m holding back a bit with her, too, although my instincts tell me she has more up her sleeve than Isuzu.

I doubt Isuzu is just experiencing puppy love, myself. I think her advances are unnatural, creepy, and therefore undoubtedly suspicious. It's not as though she even had a reason to fall for Hiroshi in the first place. .-= mefloraine´s last blog ..Oto x Maho / ??×?? =-.
