Seikon no Qwaser II First Impressions

The return of your favorite ero-anime featuring  even more cleavage, breast sucking, and BDSM!

Wunderbar!

Phew! I spent almost almost 3 nights in a row trying to re-watch Seikon no Qwaser so I can be up to date with the storyline, so if I do sound over-enthusiastic about Seikon no Qwaser II, I humbly beg your pardon.

Hear hear! Another season of the absolutely wonderful Seikon no Qwaser series! In case you haven’t sensed my sarcasm, it’s meant to be there. Seikon no Qwaser is probably one of the most ill-regarded anime as of recently due to its unmoderated fulsome amounts of fanservice. Wait…does that even count as fanservice? I mean, the breast sucking is literally a plot device…so I guess it’s necessary?

Anyways, I’ll just give you guys a quick rundown of what Seikon no Qwaser is all about:

“In St. Mikhailov Academy, Oribe Mafuyu meets a silver haired boy called Alexander. He is a Qwaser, a being who can manipulate iron and draws his power from breast milk. A mystery surrounding an Icon transforms the academy into the setting for conflict between the various different Qwaser.”                         -Anime News Network

Personally (I know I have bad tastes, according to RP), I thought the story line of Qwaser was actually pretty decent, save for the gratuitous fanservice. Although Qwaser is more well-known due to it’s ero-ness, I couldn’t help but take a moment and praise the whole ” element control” concept of the Qwasers. Anyways, if Qwaser got rid of even at least 10% of it’s ero-ness, I’m sure more people would have a positive outlook on it.

This girl takes BDSM to whole new levels.

So, what does Qwaser II offer us? As mentioned before, there’s obviously going to be more breast sucking, breast groping, sexual harrasment, and panty shots. On a more story line based view, Qwaser II wastes no time getting into a new arc, featuring a totally new setting. Now that’s the type of anime I like. A defined and clear purpose to what will be going on during the season. Anyways, the pretext for this new arc seems very reasonable, and although it does set up for countless possibilities of fanservice, I think it’s worth giving some praise to Qwaser II for abandoning what it was originally despised for.

As with most sequels, Qwaser II offers a bunch of new characters, who all seem quite dynamic, especially considering that this anime is all about the breast size of the characters, not what the characters are actually about. Anyways, bringing up a terrific example of how character introductions were turned into an absolute trainwreck, Oretachi ni Tsubasa wa Nai  managed to overload the audience with a bunch of soulless characters, but Qwaser II offers us with new characters that have some sort of an attraction to them. Not that I’m totally obsessed with bountiful bishoujos that are my age, the new characters from Qwaser II all seem to have a great potential for plot development, especially how the producers are already engaging them with the story line. Kudos to Qwaser II for not making the characters just seem like cows with huge breasts!

Sasha, that pretty much means you STILL want people to look. Do you have no shame?!

Okay, so I’m sure all you perverted people out there are waiting for me to discuss the ecchi in Qwaser II. Sadly for people that are only watching Qwaser for the ecchi, Qwaser II offers substantially less of it, but the fanservice is still there. Not that it completely ditches pantyshots, breast sucking, and breast groping, there just seemed to be a dearth of all those aspects during this debut episode of Qwaser II. Perhaps the producers learned that too much fanservice does not correlate to higher ratings? Who knows? Now, in this first episode of Qwaser, the fanservice is actually still there…wait…doesn’t that contradict what I just said? Well by ecchi, I meant the breast groping and sucking, which is directly related to “hentai” and sex, but with fanservice, I meant scenes where there are scantily clad females or pantyshots. I know I might sound confusing, but I don’t think Qwaser’s ecchi and fanservice are quite the same thing…Anyways, it’s a pleasant surprise that the producers decided to moderate the ecchi in this sequel, so I’d like to give yet another commendation to Qwaser II.

As for the story line, I noticed that there was some sort of a gap between Qwaser and Qwaser II. Whether they will cover this or not in the next episodes, I cannot say for sure. However, we are still presented some glimpses of what happened in between the seasons, such as Hana’s training to become a Maria. Anyways, regardless of the gap, Qwaser II starts off with a completely new arc featuring Sasha and Hana in an all-girls school, trying to find a “High Ancient Artifact” *watch Qwaser if you don’t know what I’m saying* called the Magdalen of Thunder. Now I don’t know what this “Magdalen of Thunder” is, but all I can say is that it’s probably another one of those “Sword of Maria” things. Regardless, Qwaser II does a great job with formulating a new season that jumps right into a new arc, which surprises me because I thought Qwaser II was going to have a couple of filler/fanservice episodes in the beginning to attract perverts. Definitely a good tactic the producers of Qwaser II are utilizing.

Somehow Katja makes Hana sound like an STD...

Anyways, if you can’t tell by reading what I’ve written above, I’m actually fairly impressed with the first episode of Qwaser II. Maybe I had really low expectations for Qwaser II, but still, I’m sure I’ll take pleasure in watching this second season. Oh, and by pleasure, I don’t mean physical pleasure. I meant mental pleasure. Get your minds out of the gutter. So, does this mean that I’m telling you to watch the original Qwaser along with Qwaser II? To tell you the truth, I think you can skip the original Qwaser and just read a summary or go to a reliable source of information (ie. Wikipedia ^_^), but certainly don’t miss out Qwaser II. If you can’t get over the “breast sucking is a plot device”, then just drop the show. Its no use watching something that you don’t find comfortable watching. As for the more tolerant viewers, I’m sure Qwaser II will be MUCH better than the original Qwaser, as long as it doesn’t screw up in the following episodes.

So does that mean I’ll cover this show? No, I won’t. This is because I’ve decided to cover 30-sai no Hoken Taiiku, and because I’m a new writer @ Rabbit Poets, I’m confined to one series at a time. Maybe I’ll beg RP after Spring 2011 to see if I can cover the remaining episodes of the show. On a more logical viewpoint, I can’t cover this show because I’ll have a lot of trouble finding general-audience type of screenshots. Like seriously, we’re talking about Seikon no Qwaser over here.

Anyways, even if I don’t get a chance to blog about Qwaser II, I’ll certainly look forward to enjoying the coming episodes!
