Spoilers after the break. You’ve been warned.
The Nina-Alexander chimera scene was probably the most ghoulish and one of the most heart-wrenching scenes from the first Full Metal Alchemist. I hated seeing it then, and I wasn’t looking forward to seeing it again. The emotional impact was dulled this time around, partly because I knew what was going to happen, and partly because of the extremely quick pacing, but it still brought a tear in my eye. It’s such a sad, sad scene.
There is a bit of salvation at the end of this version, however, as Shou Tucker immediately gets his comeuppance by getting killed by Scar. I hated seeing Tucker continue to live on in the first FMA, becoming increasingly pathetic, until he finally ended up a monstrous abomination (although he did come to realize the wrongness of his actions). Good riddance to a horrific character.
