I really think she was genuine, and was not expecting him to accept (and probably would have told him to go back to the Astronomy Club if he did). It was a really touching moment, because she accepted that he really loves astronomy and would probably be happier in that club even if it makes it harder for her chances. The pessimist in me says there’s a chance that was her acquiescence to the MihoshiXSaku ship. I guess I should say the realist in me because this would be a very unconventional show if Saku doesn’t end up with Mihoshi (or no one.)

Err, goodbye gift was lazy wording on my part, since she’s obviously not going anywhere. But the way she gave it, I wondered if she was giving up the chase. Maybe not. I might’ve just seen something that wasn’t there.

I dont think that was a goodbye gift, but a way to convince him to go back because when She gave the diary, She said She will be waiting for him, and in the diary, She draw herself with the Astronomy club and it also says that Everyone will be waiting for him.

Very touching.
