Occult Academy

I combined the post for the last three episodes of Occult Academy for artistic and narrative purposes, not because of laziness. I swear.

Last week, I said: Of course, we know he’ll eventually help them in the next episode, the loli will eventually find peace, and the dad will be relieved. And there will probably be some flashbacks to Maya and her relationship with her dad and her finding a bit of peace through the loli. Book it. [...]

If you’ve recently gone out to a chain restaurant or bar  in the US, you might’ve noticed that the menus now include nutritional information. Most of the time, it’s really shocking as to how ridiculously unhealthy the food is. Outrageous numbers of calories and astronomical quantities of sodium. And it makes you reconsider your decision. [...]

I have to admit, Occult Academy is losing me. We finally get a somewhat Ami-centric arc, but the direction felt haphazard, Maya out-of-character, and we keep losing the main plotline for monster of the week type of stories.  

I really should just refer to this show as Occult Academy, like everyone else in the English speaking world does.

While ostensibly a Kozue-focused episode, this episode felt all over the place. I could tell because it was hard to figure out which screenshots were crucial to the story.

Maya’s back with a vengeance. It finally occurred to me, Maya reminds me of a mix between Scully, Mulder and pre-tsundere-era tsuntsun. She’s got the Mulder paranormal chops, the Scully "don’t give me this shittu again" sense of disbelief, and more tsuntsun than you can shake a large wrench at.

Was it just me or did the animation seem noticeably choppy and uneven in this episode? There wasn’t even that much action. Sort of disconcerting to see it happen so early in the season.

Maya has the best facial reactions EVAR. She should put out her own photobook. Heck, we even get an outfit change in this episode. Two, if you count the towel.
